The area above the south shore of Kamloops Lake has grassland-covered slopes, rounded hills, bluffs, alakali lakes, and few tracks for exploration. We come into the area from either the end of Abbey Road or off Deer Road in Cherry Bluffs.
The hills are in the middle grasslands zone with sagebrush, bunch grass, some prickly pear cactus, rabbit brush, and grasslands wildflowers. Views extend over to Battle Bluff, the Dewdrop Range, and Red Plateau. On on nice day, long views extend down the lake in either direction. This is nice place to wander through the hills, taking whatever track works best for that day.
On our last visit to this area, we also chose to clamber down to the lakeshore, looking for fossils near the beach. The climb back up was steep, but the views sustained our effort. An area for more exploration.
